Mr. Ben Chan

Ben Chan is the inaugural chief executive officer (CEO) of Health Quality Ontario (HQO). He received his bachelor of science degree and doctorate in medecine from the University of Toronto, where he was awarded the Moss Scholarship, the university's highest undergraduate award. He also holds a Master of Public Health from Harvard and Master of Public Affairs from Princeton. Dr Chan is the former CEO of the Health Quality Council of Saskatchewan, which received the Saskatchewan Health Excellence Award for its innovative programs to improve chronic disease management, reduce wait times and prevent adverse events. In 2006, he was named Canada’s Outstanding Young Health Executive by the Canadian College of Health Service Executives and Distinguished Alumnus of the Year by Victoria College, University of Toronto. Dr Chan is a former senior scientist with the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences in Toronto, where he authored over 60 publications on health human resource planning and quality of care. He has worked as a part-time locum general practitioner in 70 rural communities and 8provinces and territories across Canada.
